The
Navajo are the largest Native American Tribe in the United States
with a total population of approximately 250,000 people. EFM
administers a work on the Navajo reservation near Four Corners in
Arizona. It was begun by Rocky Mountain Yearly Meeting in 1952 and
turned over to EFM in 1991. There are four Friends churches there.
Numerous Friends have
served there over the years. The most recent career missionaries
were Mel and Sandy Harrold. Currently Mike and Norma Johnson are serving as
short term missionaries in Rough Rock, and plan to complete their
term by September 1, 2007. Joe and
Tina Swan have been accepted as candidates to serve
at Rough Rock full time. They are currently raising their support.
